Las Vegas is the most populous city in Nevada State, an internationally renowned major resort city for gambling, shopping, and fine dining. Las Vegas, which alongside with Los Angeles bills itself as The Entertainment Capital of the World, is famous for its casino resorts and associated entertainment. It is the 28th-most populous city in the United States, with an estimated population by the U.S. Census Bureau of 583,756 as of 2010.
Established in 1905, Las Vegas officially became a city in 1911. The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos and the hotels. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area, which was the focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days. Most major downtown casinos are downtown on the Fremont Street Experience, The Stratosphere being the major exception. Fremont East, adjacent to the Fremont Street Experience, was granted variances to allow bars to be closer together, similar to the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. The goal being to attract a different demographic then the strip attracts.
Many well-known companies choose Las Vegas for presentations and advertising campaigns. Mostly it is explained by services orientation of many hotels, where such service is the norm and there are no problems with the realization of major projects.
Las Vegas houses more than eighty casinos, several thousand gaming halls, luxury hotels.
The primary drivers of the Las Vegas economy are tourism, gaming, and conventions, which in turn feed the retail and restaurant industries.
Las Vegas has a lot to offer outside the casino scene, the city is home to several museums including the Neon Museum. Las Vegas has dozens of parks, 4 golf courses, swimming pools, skate parks, the Las Vegas Zoo (exhibits over 150 species of animals and plants. On the first Friday of each month, the "First Friday" celebration is held, which exhibits the works of local artists and musicians in a section of the city's Downtown region called the "Arts District". The city hosts annual events like the Helldorado Days.
Las Vegas' premier exhibition venue, Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art presents exhibitions of paintings, sculptures and works on paper by the world's most influential artists. Bellagio Fountain: Any visitor to Las Vegas should stop to observe the glorious Bellagio fountains. The fountains are designed brilliantly to ‘dance’ to music from Mozart to the U.S. National Anthem. Bellagio also offers visitors its Conservatory and Botanical Gardens free to all visitors and open all day and year round. Visitors also admire a breathtaking, panoramic view of the city from the Eiffel Tower, the replica located at Hotel Paris - it is undoubtedly the most romantic spot in Vegas!
