Not Every Ocean View Creates the Same Experience
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is that every room labeled "Ocean View" feels the same.
It doesn't.
I've personally stayed in Ocean View rooms in both the Italian Village and Treasure Beach Village.
Both were beautiful.
Both were exactly what they were advertised to be.
But they created completely different experiences.
In my Italian Village Ocean View room, the ocean became part of the experience once I stepped onto the balcony.
In Treasure Beach Village, I could see the turquoise water almost immediately when I opened the door. I could see it from the entryway, from the bed, from the sitting area, and then again from the balcony.
Neither room was better.
They were simply different.
That's why one of the first questions I ask families isn't,
"Do you want an Ocean View?"
It's,
"What kind of Ocean View experience are you hoping for?"
Sometimes Convenience Creates More Value Than the View
Recently, I helped a family compare two very different room categories.
One offered a beautiful Penthouse Ocean View.
The other was a Poolside Walkout.
At first glance, many people would assume the Ocean View was automatically the better upgrade.
But once we started talking through how their family actually vacations, the answer wasn't so obvious.
Instead of comparing room categories, we talked through real vacation scenarios.
Would they actually spend time sitting on the balcony?
How many times would they go back to the room during the day?
Would walking down the hallway, waiting for an elevator, riding several floors, and doing it all again become frustrating after a few days?
Or would walking straight out through a patio door make the vacation feel easier?
Those are the conversations that help families make confident decisions.
Picture Your Vacation
This is one of my favorite exercises during consultations.
Instead of looking at floor plans, I ask families to picture an ordinary vacation day.
Maybe one child is still swimming in the pool while another is showering and getting ready for dinner.
One parent is relaxing outside with a cocktail while keeping an eye on the child in the pool.
The other parent is helping another child get ready inside the room.
A walkout patio makes those moments feel incredibly easy.
Or maybe everyone sleeps in except one parent.
With a walkout room, you can quietly slip outside, grab a coffee, and head for a sunrise walk without walking through the kids' sleeping area.
For some families, those little moments become some of their favorite parts of the trip.
For others, they're not important at all.
Neither answer is wrong.
That's why I don't recommend rooms based on popularity.
I recommend them based on how your family actually vacations.
Sometimes the Best Upgrade Costs Less Than You Think
Another thing many travelers don't realize is that room prices change.
Promotions change.
Inventory changes.
Sometimes an Ocean View category becomes only slightly more expensive than the room you've already booked.
Other times, another room category goes on sale and actually costs less than a different category that technically offers fewer features.

One thing I always tell my clients is that the "best" room for me changes depending on who's traveling with me.
When it's just my husband and me at Sandals, we're all about the highest floor and the best Ocean View possible.
We love sitting on the balcony with coffee in the morning or a drink at sunset, so we're perfectly happy waiting for an elevator or walking a little farther to get that incredible view.
Add my 9-year-old son into the mix at Beaches, though, and my priorities completely change.
Kids have an amazing ability to need "just one more thing."
Forgotten hat or sunglasses.
A different pool toy.
Changing shoes before dinner.
When those trips back to the room happen several times a day, convenience starts to matter a lot more than the view from the balcony.
For my family, having a walkout patio often makes the vacation feel easier.
That doesn't make a walkout better than an Ocean View.
It makes it better for us on that particular trip.
And that's really the lesson I hope families take away.
Luxury at Beaches Turks & Caicos isn't about spending the most money. It's about spending intentionally to create the best experience for your family.
