Traveling to Beaches Turks & Caicos With Food Allergies: Do You Have to Eat at the Same Restaurant Every Night?
Quick Answer
No. Families traveling to Beaches Turks & Caicos with food allergies or other dietary restrictions may have more dining flexibility than they realize.
Depending on your family’s needs, you may be able to modify something from a restaurant menu, work with the Culinary Concierge to have a meal prepared ahead of time, or get a safe meal to-go from one location and bring it to another restaurant.
That means you don't necessarily have to find one restaurant that works for everyone and then eat there every night.
Why This Matters
If you've traveled before with a child who has significant food allergies, you may already know this feeling.
You find something that works.
It's safe. It's easy. You know what your child can eat.
And before you know it, you've built the whole vacation around that one safe option.
I recently worked with a mom named Noel whose family had done exactly that on a Disney trip. Her daughter has strict dietary needs, and they figured out that the buffet was their safest bet. It worked really well for them, but it also meant they were eating at the same place because that was what worked for her daughter.
When we started talking about Beaches Turks & Caicos, I was telling her about great it is you can pre order off menu meals, but there was another piece I had to consider.
That's not really how they travel.
They're a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants family. They don't want to decide six months in advance that they're eating at a specific restaurant on Thursday at 7:30 PM.
They want to wake up, see how everyone feels and go from there.
So the question became: could they keep her food safe without making the entire family plan their vacation around her meals?
That's where I think families may be surprised by the options at Beaches.
You Don't Have to Plan Every Meal Ahead of Time
The Culinary Concierge is one option, and it's a really good one.
Families can fill out a dietary profile ahead of time, meet with the culinary team and have custom meals prepared for their child.
I actually use this with my own family because my son has food allergies. We know what he likes, and we're comfortable setting things up ahead of time.
But when I explained the Culinary Concierge to Noel, her response was basically:
“That's not really how we travel.”
And that's okay.
The Culinary Concierge isn't the only way to navigate food allergies at Beaches.
You May Be Able to Modify Something From the Menu
Sometimes you can look at the regular menu and find something that could work with a few changes.
Maybe your child needs plain pasta without the sauce.
Maybe they can have the steak but not the eggs that normally come with it.
Maybe plain fries are an option when prepared according to the appropriate allergy protocols.
You still need to tell your server about the allergy, and custom allergy preparation can take a little extra time in the kitchen. But needing food accommodations doesn't automatically mean every meal has to be planned a day or 2 in advance.
What If Your Child Has a Safe Food but Everyone Else Wants to Eat Somewhere Different?
This is one of my favorite examples because it's such a simple shift.
Let's say your child has a safe food they really like at one of the restaurants.
The rest of your family wants hibachi at Kimonos.
You don't necessarily have to choose one or the other.
Someone can grab the safe food to-go and bring it to the restaurant where everyone else is eating.
Your child gets the food that works for them.
Everyone else gets the dining experience they wanted, and your family doesn’t have to order ahead if that’s not convenient for you.
That's the kind of flexibility that can make a big difference on a family vacation.
Noel's family actually used different approaches during their trip. They had the buffet when that made sense, ordered modified items from other menus, used the Culinary Concierge for meals they wanted to plan ahead, and used safe food from one location while eating somewhere else.
They didn't have to find one solution and use it for the entire week.
And Sometimes It's the Little Things
For Noel's family, one of those little things was milk.
Her daughter needed milk for her formula. Instead of Mom having to figure out where to find it once they arrived, I contacted resort management ahead of time to see if we could have it stocked in their room.
It was one less thing for Mom to think about.
Noel later sent me a message saying, “Very helpful, especially the milk in the room!”
That might seem like a small thing.
For a mom who's already keeping track of a million things, it isn't.
This Isn't Just About Food Allergies
The same feeling can come up for family members with autism, sensory food restrictions, medical or other special needs.
You find the thing that works for your child, and suddenly it can feel like everyone else has to organize the vacation around it.
Sometimes you really do need that routine. Sometimes there are other ways to make it work.
That's what I want families to know.
Your child's needs don't necessarily mean the rest of your family has fewer choices.
Nicole's Take
I think this is one of those things that can be easy to miss when you're researching Beaches Turks & Caicos from home.
You might be thinking, “Okay, we found the one place where my child can safely eat. I guess that's where we're eating every night.”
Maybe.
But there may be other options.
For one family, the Culinary Concierge might make the most sense. Another family may be much more comfortable modifying something from a regular menu. Someone else may want to grab a safe food to-go and let everyone else choose the restaurant they actually want to enjoy.
You have options.
And for me, that's a huge part of what makes a vacation feel like a vacation.
